The line-up featured Lynda Laurence, who joined The Supremes in 1971, alongside Scherrie Payne, who became lead singer in 1973, together with Lynda’s sister Sundray Tucker, also known to many Northern Soul fans as Cindy Scott (I Love You Baby.) The chemistry between this trio captures both the elegance and unmistakable spirit of the legendary Motown sound while bringing a fresh energy uniquely their own.
This 21-track collection pays tribute to the extraordinary songwriting legacy of the celebrated Holland–Dozier–Holland team, whose compositions helped define the sound of Motown during its golden era. Opening appropriately with the classic “Reflections,” the album journeys through a selection of timeless HDH hits that became synonymous with The Supremes and the Motown phenomenon itself. Adding further historical significance to the project, the collection also includes two re-recorded Scherrie Payne-fronted Supremes disco hits from the late-1970s reunion between Eddie and Brian Holland and The Supremes in 1976/7, when the legendary writer/producers returned to Motown to collaborate with the trio on The Supremes' final two studio albums for Motown. Among the album’s many highlights are alternative lead vocal versions of seven major hits, making this release particularly special for collectors and long-time Supremes devotees, offering listeners a rare opportunity to hear familiar classics interpreted from a fresh perspective. The release arrives at a particularly meaningful moment for the Former Ladies of The Supremes, who celebrate an extraordinary milestone anniversary this July — 40 remarkable years of entertaining audiences around the world. In an astonishing achievement, the group’s longevity has now exceeded by more than double the length of time The Supremes were signed to Motown Records. Their dedication to preserving and celebrating the music’s enduring legacy has also earned praise from Diana Ross herself, who famously stated that Scherrie Payne and Lynda Laurence’s group “authentically keep the legacy alive” — an accolade the ladies continue to uphold with enormous pride and distinction." #FLOS40 - Steve Weaver
