It was one year ago that we announced the news that Susaye Greene has joined the Former Supremes group.
They say good things come to those who wait, and we waited 40 years to finally hear the united sounds of Scherrie Payne, Susaye Greene and Joyce Vincent. On June 12th 1977, Mary Wilson performed her final performance with The Supremes (Scherrie Payne and Susaye Greene) at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, England. Mary was leaving the group to pursue a solo singing career and Scherrie and Susaye were continuing as The Supremes with a new singer. Scherrie and Susaye chose Joyce Vincent, formerly of Tony Orlando & Dawn fame, to complete their trio. Unfortunately things changed and this trio didn't unite until 2017. The Former Ladies of The Supremes were formed in 1986 and for 31 years Scherrie Payne and Lynda Laurence continued to authentically present The Supremes' music to fans worldwide. When Lynda decided to move on, Susaye Greene was the obvious choice to join the trio. Susaye happily accepted Scherrie's invitation and together again, they continue the tradition of Supremacy! Susaye's fun personality, positive attitude, motivating words, and fantastic voice have become an enormous asset to the Former Supremes trio. Whenever Susaye is around there is lots of giggles and laughter, it's contagious! We love you Susaye, Happy Anniversary! We are looking forward to many more years to come! FUN FACT: Since the formation of The Former Ladies of The Supremes in 1986 every Motown Supreme (excluding the original 3 members) has been a member of this trio (Cindy Birdsong, Jean Terrell, Lynda Laurence, Scherrie Payne & Susaye Greene.) Joyce Vincent has been singing with the Former Supremes since September 2009! Joyce has proven to be a valuable asset to this trio, her beautiful voice and sweet demeanor make her the perfect fit for this group.
It's amazing that in 1977 Scherrie Payne and Susaye Greene chose Joyce Vincent to be the replacement for the departing Mary Wilson. Unfortunately that new lineup didn't materialize until 40 years later, but today we finally get to experience the beautiful sounds of Scherrie, Susaye And Joyce. Since we are reminiscing about Joyce's beginnings with the trio we decided to share some never before seen photos from her first photo shoot with the ladies, and her first official live performance with them in Spain alongside Damon Harris' Temptations Revue. Many of the photos below came from the first photo shoot Joyce did with the group which happened straight after the show in Spain. Eric Iversen & I collected the ladies from LAX and had the shoot a few days later. Now, our shoots can be a little frantic with quick changes of gowns/hair/makeup etc. but Joyce fitted right in and it was obvious (from the resulting pictures) that this lady was meant to be in the Supreme Team. She's truly a great addition and has grown into her role. I remember Joyce saying to me about 5 years ago how much she enjoys being in the group. I guess that's partly because being in an all female group the dynamics are going to be more divergent. It's important that the ladies all get along (as Scherrie Payne & Lynda Laurence have for several decades) because this affects the energy levels both on and off stage. Today, the happiness levels are maintained with Susaye Greene back in the fold and (of course) the vocal blend works beautifully - as you will soon hear for the very first time! We're all so excited to debut the new sound on our all-new album SUPREMELY YOURS II. Happy Anniversary Joyce!, We have loved spending theses last 9 years with you on the FLOS team, and we look forward to many more to come! -Steve Weaver (Click on each thumbnail to view full sized images.) On Saturday, September 29th 2018 Scherrie Payne, Susaye Greene and Joyce Vincent attended the 29th annual HAL (Heroes and Legends) Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
The Heroes And Legends (HAL) Scholarship Foundation was created by celebrated songwriter and Motown Alumna, Ms. Janie Bradford, to aid “at risk” youth and to publicly recognize others who share her vision. The primary purpose of HAL is twofold: First, to help talented young people in the community realize their lofty -but- attainable dreams of shaping careers for themselves in one of the many performing arts. They do this by providing much needed scholarship funds. Secondly, HAL spotlights positive role models from many diverse backgrounds, including leaders in the fields of music, theatre, motion pictures and business each year at the Annual HAL Awards and Scholarship Dinner. More info about the HAL Awards can be found here. Click the images to view full size. |
