 (L-R)Motown founder Berry Gordy & Barney Ales “Baldassare (Barney) Ales, a key executive at Motown Records during its 1960s heyday and later its president, has died of natural causes April 17 in Malibu, California. He was 85.”
At one of my first gigs with The Supremes, The Royal Hawaiian, in Virginia, when we arrived for rehearsal, the most beautiful bouquet of big yellow roses I had ever seen was in the dressing room for me and the card was from Barney Ales. He had remembered from a passing conversation that yellow roses were my favorite. When I thanked him at the show and asked how he remembered that, he said “I knew your favorite roses were special to you.” I never forgot that. He was quite a gentleman. May he rest in peace in heaven. - Susaye Greene Celebrate #SupremesSunday with us and enjoy a stroll down memory lane, and look back at the illustrious career of The Supremes! Today we are looking back to January 1st 1977 when THE SUPREMES (Scherrie Payne, Mary Wilson & Susaye Greene) performed "Come Into My Life" on Soul Train. #ThrowbackThursday - Looking back on the careers of Scherrie Payne & Susaye Greene formerly of The Supremes and Joyce Vincent. Pre-Supremes Scherrie was in a group called "The Glass House" (video here) and they had a hit in 1969 with a song titled "Crumbs Off The Table." Pre-Supremes Susaye Greene sang behind Ray Charles with The Raelettes (video here.) Prior to singing alongside the Former Supremes, Joyce was an original member of "Tony Orlando & Dawn " with Tony and Telma Hopkins (video here).
